A memorial service will be held for Anthony Meredith at 11:30 on Thursday 22nd June at St. James Church, Devauden.

Anthony Meredith, well known to everyone in the Devauden area, sadly passed away peacefully in the early hours of the morning on Thursday 18 May.

A family service will be held on 21st June at Langstone Crematorium at 2.30pm but if anyone feels that they would like to attend then they will be more than welcome.

Anthony was born and bred in Devauden and grew up in Wesley Way. His mother, Marjorie, was village post mistress and also ran the village hall. In his youth he was well known for his passion for speed and his love of cars and motorcycles and this led to him founding the Devauden Garage with his father in the 1960s. He continued to run the garage for the next half a century and, despite his recent illness he remained active at work until just a few months ago.

Anthony lived in Craigau since 1979 and was a familiar face to everyone in Devauden. He was always a staunch supporter of events in the village and was a regular member of the early crowd at the Masons Arms. Many of us will remember Anthony's enthusiasm for country sports and his support for Newport Dragons rugby team but he was also keen on football and played for Devauden's team.

Anthony reached his 79th milestone last August. He lived life to the full and will be greatly missed by all of us. There's no doubt he will be remembered with great affection.
