Introduction
The Devauden Village Website was first established in 2005.
The main purpose of the website is to provide useful, local information to the residents of Devauden and to people
living in the surrounding area including, Kilgwrrwg, Wolvesnewton, The
Cot, Cobblers Plain and Itton. The website aims to strengthen the
local community by keeping its stakeholders informed of
activities and facilities available in the area.
To date, the main focus has been on the the
village hall which
is widely used and has an active committee which organises a
variety of events
throughout the year.
In an attempt to reach as many local people
as possible, a printed leaflet entitled "What's
On In Devauden" is occasionally produced and delivered
around the village and to some of the neighbouring communities.
This is done to help ensure that members of the
community who do not have access to the internet, particularly
the elderly, are not excluded. Similarly, many of the
articles on the website have also been contributed to the
local press.
The Devauden Village Website is not funded by
any public means and, although it provides information about
locally based businesses, it does not seek nor receive money
from advertising. It is not affiliated to any particular local
group or organisation. The website is maintained and edited by
John Davis on a voluntary basis and the content of the website
is provided by local residents who value the contribution that
website makes to their community.
Content
The content of the Devauden Village
Website is divided into several sections. These sections are
listed below.
General information about Devauden, such as,
history and
folklore
are
available in this section of the website. There are also links to
more detailed articles about the local history and so on. This section
of The Devauden website includes a
link to a map showing the village's location within the Wye Valley
Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Monmouthshire, South Wales.
It also includes some interesting details about Devauden, such as, the
fact that the last Briton to die in WWI came from Devauden.
General items can be posted on the online notice board. The
Devauden Notice Board is frequently updated with details of events,
clubs and other activities in the Devauden area. Items of
news that are relevant to Devauden and other interesting articles can
also be posted on the notice board. If you would like to make a

The Hood Memorial Hall (in Devauden) hosts a variety of events and is
also used by various clubs and societies in the area.

race nights. The hall also hosts the Devauden annual summer fete
and a Guy Fawkes night bonfire.
The Hall has received a generous amount of funding in recent years
and has recently been equipped with a cinema system. This has
enabled the Hall to host a program of film nights for grown ups and a
Saturday Morning Cinema Club for the youngsters.
This section aims to provide useful information to local residents.
For example, shop
and pub opening times,
bus timetables, phone numbers for
local
businesses, contact details for the
neighbourhood watch,
