The Masons Arms pub was very much at the heart of our community and its closure in October 2011 left a gap that has never been filled.  Now, at last, there is, perhaps, some hope that it will reopen in the near future.

Brian Phillips, landlord of the The Masons Arms, passed away in January 2010 and, although Brian's family kept the the pub open for a while afterwards, it's doors eventually closed in October 2011.  Since then the building has stood empty with, inevitably, much speculation as to its future.

Adjacent to the Masons Arms stand two outbuildings.  In October 2016 a planning application was submitted to Monmouthshire County Council for the proposed conversion of these buildings to form ancillary residential accommodation for the Masons Arms.  Documents accompanying the application describe how Brian's brother, Peter Phillips, is "now considering the feasibility of reopening inn including completing the alterations and extensions which were being carried out to provide a restaurant and en-suite bedrooms".

The planning application (DC/2016/01171) was on the agenda for the meeting of Devauden Community Council held on 31st October 2016 and has been recommended for approval.
