Report by Mike Fleetwood Last Saturday morning, the 7th.January 2012, nine Kilgwrrwg residents & friends met at the Cross Roads in Kilgwrrwg ready to get rid of some of the Christmas & New Years excesses on a walk to the “Carpenters Arms” in Llanishen. The weather turned out to be unusually mild, sunny & dry after the rather wet weather we’ve been experiencing over the past few weeks.
The walk took us past “The Dorlands” through the woods onto the open meadows to Cwm-Fagor. From there, following the footpath across more fields we started the climb up the road to Cobblers Plain, along which we were afforded some beautiful views over the Wolvesnewton valley, as may be seen in the following photo.
At Cobblers Plain we crossed the B4293 heading down the road towards Trelleck Grange. A short way down that road we took a track off to the left which took us past the sadly decaying farmhouse of Crumbland where after carefully negotiating a somewhat muddy part of the track we again started a gradual climb giving some nice panoramic views (see photo below).
We then joined the road up to Llanishen and our final destination of the “Carpenters Arms” where we were warmly welcomed by John the landlord with a well-deserved drink and a hearty meal. I think everyone that went on this walk thoroughly enjoyed it, felt a lot better for having done it and would wish to thank Martin Chainey of the Kilgwrrwg Community Charity for organising it.
