Devauden Green Football Club

January 2009

Devauden Green FC thanks new main sponsor, Johnsey Estates, for their generous donation.

Devauden Green Football Club has been given a welcome financial boost by its new main sponsor Johnsey Estates.  The backing has helped to secure the future of the club which is now competing in Division 1 of the East Gwent League.

Speaking about the sponsorship club chairman Chris Meredith said, "We are extremely grateful for the help we are going to receive from Johnsey Estates. This couldn't have come at a better time for us.  We need help to keeping the club going as there are a lot of expenses involved and now that we are in Division One the pressure has increased."

The sponsorship from Johnsey Estates has been earmarked to cover the cost of hiring the facilities at Shirenewton Rec' which the club uses for home matches.  "This is the largest single outgoing for the club each season so having that expense covered for the next few years has lifted a heavy burden" Chris said.  However, Chris is keen to point out that the club incurs many other costs and they are still reliant on support from elsewhere in the community.  "There's also the costs of buying new kits and equipment, hiring training facilities, entering cup competitions and lots more .  When these are all added up it becomes necessary for us to raise funds and find more sponsors.  There have been a number of generous donations from individuals and businesses in the past and we hope these will continue - so many thanks to them too!"

The Devauden team have proved themselves to be a capable side since being revived in 2004.  The players have enjoyed some notable success with the highlight so far being victory in the final of the Fishwick Cup in 2007.  The squad of players come from far and wide and from all walks of life.  The coaches are always on the look out for new talent and anyone interested in playing for Devauden should contact June on 01291 650954 or Steve on 07709855510.

Johnsey Estates was founded by Terry Johnsey in the 1960s and has been involved the development of several industrial estates and commercial sites in South Wales including the Leeway Industrial Estate in Newport.  Terry and his family have had a long association with Devauden and they have supported community events and projects in the village.
