Pub goers at The Masons
Arms in Devauden have been raising money for Children with
Leukaemia. A series of events has been held over the past few weeks with
the grand finale being a gig by top local band Thyrd Eye. The band
played to a packed house at The Masons last Friday and treated the
audience to two sets of their own brand of gothic rock which featured
their forthcoming debut single “Say Something”.
Over £850 was raised on the night from the raffle and
auction. This brings the total for this year’s efforts to nearly £2000.
Brian Phillips who is landlord of the Masons Arms, and who also
coordinates the fund-raising, was particularly pleased. “It’s been great
to see so many people from the local community giving up their time to
help run the events and many more have made generous donations” he said.
“Having Thyrd Eye come and play was a terrific bonus and we would all
like to thank them for their support. They’re a fantastic band and I’m
sure they’ve got a bright future”.
Well-known borders morris dancers The Widders made a
welcome return to Devauden and kicked off Friday evening’s proceedings
by entertaining the crowd with an enthusiastic, rousing display of
traditional dancing and music. Rob Escott was also on hand to act as
auctioneer and among the goodies up for grabs were a sat nav, an oil
painting, a meal at the Tan House, a case of wine and even a brace of
pheasants.
Special thanks to Richie Rees, sound engineer for the
evening, who donated his fee to charity.
